"FAQ'S NO PRINTER"
Answers To Frequently Asked Questions and Relevant Facts
Can only African Americans particpate?
No. Admittedly, our priority is the Diasporan Black America. Anyone may become a member. However, we observe a zero tolerance policy for lack of respect of any one's affiliation with any particular imagined community*. We also observe a zero tolerance policy against any form of prejudice and discrimination. We will NOT tolerate discord and destructive conduct amongst our beautiful Diasporan Black people, nor will we tolerate it amongst our members generally. Like the proverbial ark,, we expect all kinds to coexist. Our primary thrust is a self-guided moral compass - self-guided in the sense that such is NOT predicated upon any particular religious upbringing or affiliation or even lack thereof. We believe morality is innate. Regarding valuation of life and general respect, we strongly assert that there exists a common ground. If you can rock with that, then we gladly welcome you to become a member.
*Academically, derived and aside from the term in its context of nationalism, an imagined community is defined as any group perceived to be unified by characteristics or belief systems. Thus, Black America is an imagined community. The LGBTQ+ community is an imagined community. The Me Too advocates and those who identify as having similar experiences is an imagined community. And on a macro, national level, Americans are members of an imagined community.
Are you licensed to solicit charitable donations?
We were, because we originally incorporated as a non-profit and applied for the Charitable Solicitation License, which was approved on January 5, 2018. History of our licensure and other relevant information can be verified here. Simply enter our corporate name, "Aboveground Railroad Commission Incorporated," and access all of our business registration records published by the North Carolina Secretary of State, including but not limited to our approved Charitable Solicitation License. When it was time to renew our license, we gave notice that we shall no longer solicit donations because we will be transitioning to a for profit corporation.
Is there a membership fee?
Initially, we had no membership fee and did try to acquire necessary funds from grants. However, in order to serve all of the communities we seek to serve, we can't accept nor would we qualify for grants. We are also not fans of red tape, and assert that it significantly impedes the work we wish to undertake.
So, now we do have a membership fee, but it's only $5/Mo. || FOLLOW us on our IG @abovegroundrailroadinc for membership promotions. We have still held true to our original mantra - we shall continue to keep it simple.
We pool our resources to empower people. Care bear stare!
Are there membership levels?
No. We seek to even the playing field. Accordingly, consistent with our thrusts to end classism and elitism, we offer only one membership option. All members pay $5/Mo. , and nothing more. We will not accept more than that fee from each member. We are also learning to trust one another again, so we believe it's best to start slow and prove efficacy in unity. Maybe in the future we'll increase the membership fee; however, the membership fee shall always remain the same for every member. For instance, if in two years we increase the membership fee to $10/Mo. when we've hopefully empowered ourselves to ECONOMIC VIABILITY, THEN EACH MEMBER WILL PAY $10 AND NOTHING MORE. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT MORE THAN THAT FEE FROM ANY MEMBER.
How can I be considered to serve on the Executive Board?
Please send your resume, portfolio, and/or a letter explaining how you can best support our team to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please allow 2 weeks for us to respond to your inquiry and submission.
Do you offer sponsorship opportunities?
We offer sponsorship advertising and other cross-marketing opportunities for our Lens Talks only, and exclusively so. We do not permit advertising or affiliate sponsorship for our other projects, because our focus is on people - NOT commerce.
We thank you in advance for understanding our firm disposition.
After much deliberation, we've decided to dissolve the nonprofit and incorporate THE A.R.C. as a for profit membership organization. As of June 19, 2019, we have given notice to the NC Secretary of State that we do not plan to solicit donations after the expiration of our license in July 2019. We will take no further action to pursue tax exempt status through the IRS. We are excited to launch our first Annual Membership Drive on June 19, 2019, in honor of Juneteenth. Our founder is a politician, by definition and registration. However, the Aboveground Railroad Commission Incorporated is NOT a Political Action Committee (PAC), nor any other type of political organization. If you visited this website in search of our founder's political campaign, please visit www.SeeTigressRun.com. Our founder was thinking - "I can't solicit donations from those who need their money ... and I can't accept donations from those who "greed" their money" ... so, she proposed $1.00 membership! And $1.00 membership it is! Join today! We have a lot of work to do. Because our founder's vision and paradigm is considerably unorthodox, it is imperative that we maintain clean hands, transparency, ethical and legal standards so as we can continue the progress of our transformative community planning and empowerment projects. Accordingly, we reserve the right to discontinue our affiliation with any organization that engages tortuous or criminal conduct, especially against the communities we assuredly protect and for whom we advocate. Our primary thrusts are effectiveness and sustainability. We thank you in advance for understanding our firm disposition.
